Episode 38: Judas Priest and Anabolic Kit Kat Bars

November 25, 2014
00:0000:00

In this weeks episode of amateur fitness podcasting I try to struggle through the effects of recovering from the Judas Priest concert the night before. I am not as young as I used to be and I thought that a quick run and slamming an energy drink could revive me enough to make a fairly competent podcast. You be the judge.

The highlights here are as follows because I will show you how to negotiate with your spouse to attend concerts you want to go to such as Judas Priest. You will learn that Judas Priest and Iron Maiden are the two premier metal bands in the world and their cd's should be in your collection if you have an inclination towards that genre.

On the fitness side of things Nestles is trying to find the chemical that makes exercise effective and incorporate it in their food. The link is here, http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-11-18/exercise-in-a-bottle-is-next-food-frontier-for-nestle.html.

The push for food companies to try and engineer their food towards having pharmaceutical like benefits is an interesting concept. While the general public is clamoring for more "natural" foods, there is a huge opportunity for food companies, like Nestle, to create "SuperFoods".

What I try and do is take a semi-sophisticated look at both sides of the issue to see what the implications are.

Episode 37: Good Gym Music Picks, My Namibian Friend is back and 5 Workout Stereotypes You Should Not Be

November 20, 2014
00:0000:00

Episode 37, I hope, is pretty entertaining.

Thank you to everyone who listens to me around the world. We start with the shameless plugs for my sponsors, then I look at who is listening to me around the world. India you are fantastic. France, go recruit a few more friends.

After that, we move on to good gym music. Yes Pantera and Judas Priest are go to bands but sometimes you need something a bit groovier. I talk about 3 bands I listen to on a regular basis while working out and they may surprise you.

Stereotypes are abundant in the fitness industry and I talk about 5 of them. Don't freak out, you will be in one of them if not several. I am not here to rag, just enlighten. I actually identify with a couple myself.

As always, thank you for listening.

Episode 35: Low Testosterone? It May Be Your Adrenals.

November 14, 2014
00:0000:00

Low testosterone or Adrenal Fatigue?

Okay, this may not be as exciting as looking at oiled up spray tan guys barking about raising your testosterone....but this does make more sense. Hormone replacement therapy is the hot industry buzzword and clinics are popping up faster than Crossfit gyms.

The real question is do you need it?

For a lot of people the answer is no. This is something you need to do your research on before dropping your pants in front of a doctor.

#1 Introducing exogenous testosterone in your body means you will have to do this treatment the rest of your life. If you want normal test levels.

In other words if your body is getting this from an outside source, it doesn't need to make it itself. So it stopsor at the very least slows down.

Stop the treatment and your levels will plummet lower than when you started.

#2  HRT is expensive.

#3  What a great way to build repeat customers for the clinic. Great for Doctors who want to make tons of money giving people shots in the butt and bad for you if this really isn't the issue.

If you have low testosterone it means that something is going on upline causing the low testosterone production. Adding test to your system is treating the effect not the cause.

That is why hormone therapy is not always effective.

Look at this article of on the adrenals. There is a short 3 minute video that will answer a lot of questions you may have.

Hopefully it will make sense to you.

Episode 36: Is Milk really Bad For You, Reviews of Riddick, Hercules and The Wolverine

November 11, 2014
00:0000:00

Episode 36 is a nicely balanced episode if I do say so.

I end up talking about a couple important subjects.

1. Climate change- I astutely predict we are in a global cooling phase for the next few months only to have things change around and enter a global warming phase around April. Weird.

Next up are movie reviews. First you hear a short rant about how people can't sit still in movie theaters and how they turn into savages with their cell phones.

Next I tackle the riddle that is the "Riddick" series. So close to being a good franchise.

"The Legend of Hercules" only because I am too cheap to rent the better Rock version and this one was free on HBO.

"The Wolverine" with the eternal enigma that is Hugh Jackman.

Next we tackle a study that says milk is bad for you. Is it? I'm not telling. You have read this far, go ahead and click the download button to get the whole story.

While you are at it, you might as well follow me and review me on ITunes. Is this too much to ask?

Episode 34: Why you don’t know what your brain is doing and How to Fix It.

November 5, 2014
00:0000:00

Episode 34 is all about the brain. You would think your brain is on your side in making your life better, wouldn't you?

Not really. I am reading a book by David Rock called "Your Brain at Work". The book basically tells you why you fall into patterns and habits. This isn't a self-help book as much as a tour guide of the inner workings of you brain.

And in this episode you see the inner workings of my brain as I talk about this and , how this pertains to exercise and nutrition. Knowing this stuff can have a profound impact on your success.

We also start to cover the concept of strength and how to get it. It is very strange that this is such a foreign concept to people but strength is the groundwork to health.

Episode 33: Phony Sausages and the 8 Day a Week Workout

November 1, 2014
00:0000:00

Well this episode starts off well enough with an actual mention of my sponsors and the hint of something big coming soon. I can't say for sure what it is but I am pretty happy about it.

This week's Self-destruct goes to the makers of mediocre sausage known as Hillshire Farms. Now I know that other big corporations are guilty of using the current concern about eating healthier to promote their products to appear healthy when they really aren't. In this case I had to misfortune to buy their product so they earn the right to be exposed this week.

Next we talk about doing exercises you hate but know are good for you. You need to do them. There is too much hate in the world, Cross that anger bridge onto the friendship shore with me. I will give you compelling reasons why you need to do them.

After that detour we get back on track with how to construct high intensity/low intensity days so you can get better results faster. The failure to get into a rhythm is the main cause for lack of gains/interest/progress. I will show you what you need to do.
